Nepal - Langtang Valley & Gosaikunda Lake Trek (21 days)

The Langtang valley, also known as “valley of glaciers” offers an abundance of wildlife, rich cultural and historical importance. Couple this with picturesque scenery such as pine forests, swift mountain streams, rugged rocks and mountains rising up; it is bound to be a unique experience. During this trek, you will understand the history of the Tibetan ancestry and their way of living, agriculture, and trade. After the massive earthquake in 2015, most of the Langtang valley was destroyed and now they are making a comeback as you can see the warm and gentle smile while welcoming you. You can enjoy not only the colorful dresses of the people but also the blooming rhododendron forests, birds, and butterflies. The trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi. Exploring Tamang Heritage, we reach Langtang village and explore Kyanji Ri. Gosaikunda lake is a holy site with 108 lakes around the site. Helambu region is also included in the program.

This itinerary is a guideline only and we will follow the itinerary as far as possible but due to weather conditions, health conditions, natural disasters and other unfavorable phenomenon your guide might decide to amend or cancel the itinerary for your own safety. Welcome! to Kathmandu Nepal. Asian Heritage Treks & Travel Representative welcome you at the Airport with your nameplate.  After Arrival at Nepal airport transfer you to the hotel. On the way Airport to Hotel, you will pass by the Open cremation Place (Pashupatinath temple)Royal Palace Museum i.e NarayanhityGarden Of Dream and reach the Thamel. Your hotel will be in downtown of Touristic Hub. Our representative will facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. There will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel. 

After Breakfast Our tour guide will come to pick you up along with the driver and vehicle.  Firstly you will be visiting the UNESCO world heritage site Kathmandu Durbar Square where you can observe the typical wood carved temples and buildings reflecting the ancient Kathmandu city.  After then we will be heading towards Swyambhunath- the monkey temple where you can observe the religious harmony and tolerance between the Buddhist religion and Hindu religion along with that enjoy the panoramic view of Kathmandu city and the Himalaya ranges from here. After that you go to the Pashupatinath Temple, one of the biggest pilgrimage sites for the Hindu religion people in south-east Asia, you can observe the ritual body cremating ceremony process of the Hindu people at the bank of holy Bagmati river and then visit another pilgrimage site nearby to the Pashupatinath Temple known as Guweyswori Temple. To finish the day you can visit another UNESCO world heritage site Boudhanath Stupa. It was built in 600 A.D. and is the only one of a kind of stupa reflecting Buddhism in the world.  Explore the surroundings of Boudhanath Stupa and after completing your sightseeing get back to the hotel and rest. Early in the morning, we start our jeep drive to our trip commencing point (Syabru Besi). Once we drive out of the Kathmandu valley, the roads twist and turn along the high hills through remote villages. The landscape changes radically as well as the lifestyle of the people living along the way. When you reach the village of Ranipauwa, you can view the Annapurna Mountain range in the west and Langtang Mountain range in the east. Following the Trishuli River and touring over rough roads, the road guides you into the Langtang National Park where you will immediately notice the remoteness of the human settlement at a high altitude. overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Today you will start trekking, we follow the trail around the valley and ascend to a viewpoint which offers beautiful views of the Ganesh Himal, Goljang valley, and the Gosaikunda range. As you descend and walk through the valley of Gatlang, you will pass by a lake and an apple farm. After your arrival in the village of Gatlang, you can have some rest or explore and experience the Tamang culture. Afterward, descending to Thangbuchet, we reach Chilime village located next to the Bhotekoshi River. The Chilime Hydropower dam is situated here. Overnight accommodation will be in a local lodge.

Following the trail to Nagthali, we leave Chilime. Along the path, we pass by a dense forest and might encounter the Nepal Gray Langur Monkeys. After walking for some time, we reach an open grassland with amazing views of the Himalayas such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang range and the Sanjen ranges. After passing this grassland we will reach Nagthali. Nagthali was once used as a popular meditation center for the local monks and priests. Overnight accommodation in Local Lodge.

We start the day with a descending walk, for about an hour, to reach Thuman. Thuman is one of the Tamang villages which is heavily influenced by the Tibetan culture. The people here are friendly and love to sing and dance. Later on, we continue walking through rhododendron forests and meadows towards Briddim, another Tibetan influenced Tamang community on the lap of Langtang Himal. The trail to Briddhim in springtime is beautiful as the whole rhododendron forest blooms. In Briddhim, enjoy the traditional local cuisines and take part in cultural practices. We start our day a little early as it a long walk to reach Lama Hotel. Following the path, it takes us through the jungle and passes by small villages in some places. The trail offers a splendid panoramic view of mountains and the surrounding hills. After hiking for some hours, we reach Lama Hotel. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Today is a strenuous day as we have to climb about 1000 meter. We start by climbing up towards a steep forest slope to the Langtang River. Continuing our trail, we reach Ghoda Tabela, which literally means the Horse Stable. After this, the path is slightly gradual and offers the beautiful sight of grazing Yaks in the valley. After ascending for some time, we cross a stream and climb past several water-driven prayer wheels to the large settlement of Langtang. Langtang is one of the oldest villages along this trekking route and the view from here is more spectacular as we get closer to the mountains. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Along the path to Kyanjin Gompa, you can see the wonderful view of Langtang Lirung. The trail passes through the largest mani wall, made from stone and with prayers written on them, the water mills, chortens, a sacred pile of rocks with various inscriptions carved on them and many more. After crossing some rivers, we reach Kyanjin Gompa. Here, you can test the cheese and curd made from Yak milk. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Today you will explore in and around Kyanjin Gompa. You can also go for a hike to Tserko Ri (5000 m) for magnificent mountain views. As Tserko Ri lies at quite a high altitude, you might feel the thin air but it is not the place where you will spend your night. After getting some wonderful views of the mountains and the surroundings, we return back to Kanjin Gompa. In the remaining time, you can stroll around Kanjin Gompa and enjoy the surrounding views along with various floras and faunas. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

From Kanjin Gompa, you will see the Langtang Lirung Glacier looming over the village, surrounded by the peaks of Langtang Lirung, Changbu and Langtang Yubra. Today, you’ll climb up to get a closer look at this amazing natural site. Following the trail from the monastery, follow the path leading up towards the glacier. After hiking for an hour, ascend steep climb until you reach a plateau, from where you can admire the glacier and have an amazing view of the bowl-shaped Langtang valley that is surrounded by the Himalayas.Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Today, you have to walk 6 to 7 hours downhill through a dense forest to reach Lama Hotel. You will walk through the ethnic Tamang settlements where the people are influenced by Tibetan religion and cultural practices. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

After having breakfast, you will start trekking down to Thulo Syabru. The total trek is downhill and you will walk through a lush green forest. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Leaving Thulo Syabru, follow the path ascending to Gosaikunda. The path is uphill for most of the day. After two hours of climbing, you’ll reach Chandan Bari. Here, have rest and explore the Cheese factory. Afterward, start ascending for another 2-3 hours to finally reach Lauri Binayak.Overnight accommodation at a local lodge.

The trail from Lauri Binayak to Gosaikunda is a very scenic one. As you ascend, you’ll see the mountains getting closer and the ocean of clouds below. On reaching Buddhist Gompa, the trail is little easier with regular ups and downs. After hiking for some time, you’ll get the first glimpse of Saraswoti Kunda (One of 108 lakes around Gosaikunda) and followed by Bhairav Kunda or Naag Kunda. Later, you’ll reach the Gosaikunda village beside the Gosaikunda Lake. Gosaikunda is a holy site for both Buddhist and Hindu pilgrims with hundreds of pilgrims come here to worship and bathe during the full-moon festival every August. Today, you’ll be exploring the Gosaikunda Lake. According to the myth, Lord Shiva (Hindu biggest God) traveled into the Himalayas and created many lakes, mainly Gosaikunda and Bhairav Kunda, by piercing the snow-covered mountainside with his trident to obtain pure water to cure a terrible sickness and quench his thirst. Here, visit the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and explore the lakes around the Gosaikunda.Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Following the trail through the northern side of Gosaikunda Lake, we climb through the rugged rocky trail, crosses glacier moraines and past four small lakes to the Laurebina La (4610m). After some rest at Laurebina la, the trail descends down to Phedi and drops down to the stream. Start climbing through the Bamboo forest to reach the top of the hill and descend down throughout crossing a rocky hill with pine, rhododendron trees to Ghopte.Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Today, we will be heading towards Melamchi Gaon. Melamchi is a beautiful village inhabited mainly by the Hyolmo, Sherpa and Tamang people. It lies at the heart of Helambu Valley and is one of the largest settlements in the region. Hiking for some time, we reach the Thadepati village which is a mountain watcher’s paradise. We then descend gradually from Thadepati and reach Melamchi village. Overnight accommodation in a local lodge.

Descending down from Melamchi Gaon, we reach Thimbu. From Thimbu, you’ll drive towards Kathmandu.Overnight in a hotel.

Today, you will visit two ancient cities near Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. In Patan, you will be visiting another UNESCO World Heritage sites: Krishna Temple and Patan Durbar Square. Later on, visit the Patan Museum, where you can learn more about the history of Patan and the kings who reigned here. Later, visit the Golden Temple, a major attraction for the both Hindu and Buddhist people, and Banglamukhi Temple. In Bhaktapur, you will be amazed by the architecture, as until today the city has been able to be kept intact in its old form. You can observe the old wood carved buildings all around Bhaktapur and then you will visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Explore the surroundings and afterward visit the Nyatopola Temple, one of the biggest temple in Nepal. After completing your sight seen get back to Kathmandu and check in hotel and have rest. Overnight in Hotel.

Have your breakfast early in the morning and our office representative will come to pick you up at the hotel to transfer you to the airport regarding your flight time. Have a safe journey onwards.
