Nepal - Upper Mustang Trek (19 Days)

Upper Mustang Trek starts and ends in Kathmandu. With a 19-days tour package taking you through hiking & trekking 10 other destinations in Nepal. Upper Mustang Trek is a small group tour that includes accommodation in a hotel as well as flights, transport and more.

It takes you through the off trail path to the hidden kingdom of Mustang valley. The terrain and desert type vegetation in those region let you experience the indo-Tibetan culture followed by people and similar vegetation in the area.

Upper Mustang was a restricted area till 1992 for foreign visitors and outsiders. Today, foreigners are allowed but can only enter Upper Mustang after they buy a special permit of US$ 500 for ten days. The trip to Mustang is only arranged by licensed trekking companies of Nepal.

Welcome to Nepal!
Upon your arrival, Asian Heritage Treks & Travel representative welcomes you at the Airport. Then, you will be transferred to the hotel. On the way to the hotel, you will pass by the Open cremation Place (Pashupatinath temple), Royal Palace Museum i.e. Narayanhity and Garden Of Dream. Your hotel will be located in downtown of Touristic Hub. Our representative shall facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. There will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel.

Our tour guide shall pick you up in a private vehicle. Firstly you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, the UNESCO world heritage site. Here, you can observe the typical wood-carved temples and buildings. These structures reflect the history and culture of Kathmandu city. Then you will be heading towards Swyambhunath- the monkey temple.
Here, you can observe the religious harmony and tolerance between the Buddhist religion and the Hindu religion. Also, you can witness the panoramic view of Kathmandu city and the Himalaya ranges. After that, you will be visiting the Pashupatinath Temple. It is one of the biggest pilgrimage sites for the Hindu's in south-east Asia. You can observe the ritual body cremating ceremony at the bank of the holy Bagmati river. and explore the surroundings. 
Then you will visit another UNESCO world heritage site i.e. Boudhanath Stupa. It was built in 600 A.D. and is the only one of a kind to reflect Buddhism in the world. Explore the surroundings of Boudhanath Stupa and enjoy the peace. After completing your sightseeing, you get back to the hotel and rest.

Driving duration: 5-6 hours. Our trekking guide will pick you up and transfer to the hotel in a private vehicle. On the way, you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes and mountains. You can visit lakeside Pokhara and stroll through the streets of Pokhara.

In the morning, you will start your day with a 25 minutes flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. The early part of the flight to Jomsom is extremely breathtaking. Under clear weather conditions, one can witness the Annapurna (8091 m) and the Dhaulagiri (8167 m). You can observe the peek that seeks out from the clouds.
After landing in Jomsom, you can have your breakfast and begin your trek. First, you can head to Kagbeni, following the Kali Gandaki River, the trail is rough and barren but is mostly flat. You will enjoy lovely views of mountains such as Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna. A medieval-looking town, Kagbeni, lies at the bank of two rivers. It's an interesting windswept village on the main age-old Trans Himalayan salt trade route. The Mustang district also has the oldest monastery. It houses those secrets that have still not been unveiled.

Today you will commence your trek from Kagbeni. After walking for some time, you will see the caves on the west hand side and the Gompa Kang. You will have a good climb to Tangebe (3060  m), a labyrinth of narrow alleyways. Here you will find the typical Mustang Chortens painted in black, white and red colours. Now, Chele is just two hours walking from here.

With the dream of reaching the extremely new world near Nepal - Tibet border, you start the trek. The journey to Syangbochen commences from Chele. Here, you will pass through summer pass on the way.
Now, you will find two walking paths, the upper path leads to Syangbochen via Vena and the lower pass leads to Milarepa cave. Lower Path will be more adventurous. The herds of the Himalayan transportation i.e. pony, horses and donkeys are seen. They carry heavy loads on their backs with the support of a rope. After a whole day walk, you will reach Syangbochen. It's is a tiny Tibetan style village with some small shops and houses.

In the early morning, you can have a beautiful view of Dhaulagiri (8167 m). After breakfast, you will start walking to the beautiful village named Ghami. On the way, you cross Syangbochen Pass of 3850 m altitude. From Ghami, you continue walking to Tsarang. The place is surrounded by red muddy rocks all around. The Buddhists Prayer flags fluttering due to the gushing wind make everything mesmerizing.

Your trekking resumes for Lo-Manthang as you walk through Dhakmar pass. The trail is magnificent and filled with natural rocks. Those rocks are so perfectly placed that they look like the architectures by human beings. From the pass, you will reach the red color Ghar Monastery. The glorious monastery stands with the 1200 years old historical importance.
Then, we continuing your trekking to Lo-Manthang. Lo Manthang was formerly a walled capital of the Lo Kingdom. Lo is culturally and linguistically Tibetan northern two-thirds of Mustang District. It's the homeland of Thakali people who speak a different language and have a synthesis of Tibetan and Nepalese culture. The village is noted for its tall whitewashed mud-brick walls and gompas. The King's Palace has nine-cornered, five-story structures.
There are four major temples. Jampa Lhakhang or Jampa Gompa, the oldest one, built in the early 15th century is also known as the "God house". Thubchen Gompa is a huge red assembly hall and gompa built in the late 15th century. It is located just southwest of Jampa Gompa. Chodey Gompa, now the main city gompa; and the Choprang Gompa, which is popularly known as the "New Gompa". The presence of the architectures presents a colorful mosaic made of earthen reds, yellows, and brown color mosaic. It has increased the value of this destination.

Today is your sightseeing day in and around Lo-Manthang. The city contains about 150 houses, as well as residences for many lamas. You will start your day for Zhong cave and Tshosher Monastery (a 1000 years old Tibetan Monastery) by hiring either a Horse or by Jeep. After returning from these places, you will start the local sightseeing in Lo-Manthang.
You will observe the king's palace, Monastery, local surroundings, and the village. The king's palace is an imposing building in the center of the city and is occupied by the current King and Queen. Although his duties are largely ceremonial, the King is respected by the people. Throughout the kingdom, the villagers continue to seek his advice regarding many issues. Overnight in a local lodge.

From today, you will start our return journey from Lo-Manthang to modern civilization. On the way, you can see many natural scenes which increase the joy of travelling. Afterwards, you will return to Ghami.

In the morning, you will continue your way back to the village of Samar. It will take about 7 to 8 hours of trekking.

In the morning, you will continue our journey to Muktinath. If Muktinath is not possible then Kagbeni will be your final destination for today.

In the morning, you will go for a sightseeing tour of the very famous Hindu temple Muktinath, where lots of pilgrims come to worship their god. From here you can experience one of a kind panorama view of the mountain so don’t forget your camera to capture the moments. You will start descending towards Jomsom to catch the flight to Pokhara, the next morning.

We take an early morning 20 minutes flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Upon landing at Pokhara airport, you'll be transferred to your hotel. Today, you will have free time so we give you a chance to exploring the beautiful valley Pokhara with its natural and cultural beauty.

Today, you will be sightseeing the beautiful Pokhara. The enigmatic Davi’s Falls is a few minute’s drives away. The Pardi Khola, an outflow from Phewa Lake makes the fall. Devi’s Fall disappears into a mysterious cavern in the ground as it creates magnificent sprays.
Another attraction is the Seti Gandaki River, which flows right through the heart of the town. The limestone in the soil gives the river its milky color. At certain spots, the Seti Gandaki runs completely underground. Several Tibetan settlements around Pokhara sell handicraft goods & Tibetan carpets. Moreover, we will visit Davi's Waterfall, Gupteswor Mahadev, and International Mountain Museum.

Today, you begin with an early drive to Sarangkot. Here, we can capture the tranquil and magical view of the city before sunrise. The first rays of sunlight hitting the mountains in the background are magnificent. Further, Sarangkot offers panoramic views of the Annapurna, Fishtail, Dhaulagiri and other mountains. Thereafter, we shall go for boating at Fewa Lake and we shall hike towards Peace Stupa.
Pokhara Shanti Stupa is a Buddhist pagoda-style monument located on Anadu Hill of Kaski. The boat trip crossing Phewa Lake from Pumdi Bhumdi bay to Phewa Ghat lasts up to half an hour. It’s a good opportunity to enjoy the sight of Himalayan peaks reflecting on the water. It is also a relaxing way to end a hiking day and a panoramic loop at the World Peace Pagoda.

Today we drive from Pokhara to Kathmandu. It will take 5-6 hours to reach Kathmandu. You can enjoy the evening in the streets of thamel.

Today, our guide will receive you and then drive you to Patan for sightseeing. In Patan, you will be visiting other heritage like Krishna Temple and Patan Durbar Square. Later on, you will visit the Patan Museum, where you can learn more about the history of Patan and the kings. You also visit the Golden Temple and Banglamukhi Temple, a major attraction for both Hindu and Buddhist people.
Then after we will be visiting Bhaktapur where you will be amazed by the architecture. Observe the old wood carved buildings all around Bhaktapur. Explore the surroundings and visit the Nyatapola Temple, the biggest temple in Nepal. Here, you can also take the pottery making class using the traditional methods. You will visit the Pottery Square. You will be taught to design and adorn your pot with beautiful patterns and inscriptions.

Your trip will come to an end today. First, you will be advised and assisted with your onward travel arrangements. Then, we shall transfer you to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport. You will reach the airport 3 hours before your flight schedule.
