Nepal - Phaplu to Everest Base Camp Trek (21 Days)

Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world is also known as Sagarmatha (meaning- higher than the sky). The trek to Everest Base Camp is the majestic walk in the land of the Himalayas. Trekking through the Everest region offers surprising and hidden mountain views. During the trek, you get opportunities to witness the culture and lifestyle of Sherpa’s (World Famous Mountain climbers).

This itinerary is a guideline only and we will follow the itinerary as far as possible but due to weather conditions, health conditions, natural disasters and other unfavorable phenomenon your guide might decide to amend or cancel the itinerary for your own safety. Your guide will help you at any time with providing information regarding conditions and safety during the treks.

Welcome! To Kathmandu. Asian Heritage welcomes you at Tribhuvan International Airport. On arrival, our Tour Manager /Asian Heritage Representative will transfer you to the hotel. Check in to your sumptuous room at the luxury 4 star Hotel Yatri. Our representative will facilitate you and discuss your travel itinerary. in the evening, there will be enough time to stroll through the street of Thamel.

After Breakfast, our tour guide will pick you up along with the driver and a vehicle. Firstly you will visit Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO world heritage site where you can observe the typical wood-carved temples and buildings reflecting the ancient Kathmandu city. Afterwards, we will head towards Swyambhunath- the monkey temple where you can observe the panoramic view of Kathmandu city. Then after, you will visit the Pashupatinath Temple, one of the biggest pilgrimage sites for the Hindu religion people in south-east Asia.

You will explore the surroundings and observe the ritual body cremating ceremony process of the Hindu people. We can also visit another pilgrimage site nearby to the Pashupatinath Temple i.e. Guweyswori Temple. Lastly, we will visit Boudhanath Stupa, another UNESCO world heritage site. The stupa was built in 600 A.D. and is the only one of a kind of Stupa which reflects Buddhism in the world. We shall explore the surroundings of Boudhanath Stupa. After completing our sightseeing, you can get back to the hotel and enjoy some rest.

In the early morning, our jeep will pick you up at the hotel. From Kathmandu, it takes about 8 to 9 hours to reach Phaplu. It is a long journey so just sit back, relax and enjoy the view along the way.

Today, we start our trekking to Nunthala. We then incline towards Takshindo Gompa. At Takshindo, you can visit the Gompa and old cheese factory. After descending from here, you will reach Nunthala.

Continuing your trek with a gentle descent, you pass towards the Dudh Koshi River. You cross different agricultural pastures and a small Sherpa and Rai villages. From here, you ascent all the way to Kharikhola (2050m) passing through Juving (1680m). From Kharikhola, you will have a gentle walk of 45 minutes and then proceeds up to the Bupsa. Here, you can see an antique Buddhist Monastery in a ruined state.

The morning starts with a steep ascend towards Khari La Pass (2880 m). Today, you pass through rhododendron and oak forest and a small Sherpa village. This viewpoint provides magnificent views of Numbu, Cho-Oyu, Gyangchung Kang, and Thamserku. Afterwards, descending towards Chaubar village, you will reach Puiyan. In the evening, you will reach Surkey, a beautiful Sherpa village at the bottom of Lukla.

The first part of the trek is a gentle ascent to Chipling, a junction road to Jiri and Lukla. From this place, the road is quite broad and busy. Now, your trail is almost flat with a gentle descent and then ascent to Phakding.

Today you will be trekking to Namche Bazaar, also known as Sherpa Capital. You leave Phakding and reach Monjo after 3 hours of the walk as we pass many suspension bridges with a good view of Mt. Thamserku. After walking for some time, you enter the Sagarmatha National park. Here, you must enter the check-post. Then you cross a high suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River and walk to Namche Bazar. This will take you about 2 and a half hours.

Namche Bazaar is also known as the Sherpa Capital. You can use your time to acclimatize, relax and explore the surrounding places. Most of the trekkers prefer to get up before sunrise. You can view the magnificent Everest, Thamserku, AmaDablam and other glorious peaks. One can get a chance to observe the shadow of the mountains being projected onto the clouds. As an energy supplier, one should try salt-butter tea and Champa – a kind of barley often consume by the sherpas in the region.

As you incline towards the forest magnificent mountain ranges smile to you. You continue walking towards the face of the mountain and eventually enter Tengboche. A stone gate built by lamas welcomes you.

From Tengboche, we enter the altitude beyond the 4,000m. The trail drops down to Dingboche and crosses the Imja River. Then, you climb past Mani stones to Pangboche at 3860m. Visit the gompa and then resume our climb to Pheriche. At Pheriche, you can find the Pheriche hospital. It is run by Himalayan Rescue Association. If needed, you can get some medication.

Today is an acclimatization day. Due to the increase in altitude, we need to rest before proceeding further. You can also roam the area.

Enjoy the panoramic views of mountains such as Tawache and AmaDablam. To the north, there is Pokalde, Kongma-Tse and the great wall of Nuptse. We then head to Lobuche. Nearly after two hours of walk, you will merge the walking path near Dugla (4595m). You also cross a small wooden bridge over the river of Khumbu glacier and then reach Lobuche.

From Lobuche, you will continue to trek to Gorakshep. Gorakshep is a major joining point of the classic trek to Everest Base Camp Trek and Kala Pathar. The place also offers a great view of the Himalayan range. In the afternoon, visit the Kala Patthar to watch the majestic sunset. From the viewpoint, you can have an excellent panoramic view of Mount Everest and Lhotse.  Also, Khumbutse, Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Amadablam, Thamserku, Lobuche peak e.t.c are visible.

In the early morning, you visit EBC which is about 2 hours far. As you stay close to the Everest, you can enjoy the view from the base camp and return to Gorakshep. Afterwards, it's a return journey ahead to Lobuche.

Descending down through the terminal moraine of Khumbu Glacier, you reach the Pheriche village. You can enjoy the beautiful views of Cholatse across the valley. You then ascent for some time to reach Dingboche.

Continuing your journey, you will trek through the Rhododendron and Juniper trees. After crossing the bridge over the Dudh Koshi River, you follow Dudh Koshi gorge. Then, you need to descend rapidly through the pine forests before reaching Sansa. You keep a lookout for wildlife like mountain goats, snow leopards, and colorful pheasant. After passing a Chorten, you reach the army camp at Namche Bazaar.

From Namche Bazaar, a few hours of the walk will take you to Lukla. In Lukla, you can relax and dip yourself into the local culture and lifestyle. On reaching Lukla, you will reflect on the time spent as a group and the personal achievements in the trek.

Enjoy your last glimpse of the mountains you have recently visited. The flight to Kathmandu leaves before 10:00 am. Sometimes, it differs according to weather conditions. On arrival at Kathmandu, you will be transferred to your hotel.

Today, our guide will receive you and then drive you to Patan. You’ll be driven to one of the ancient cities inside Kathmandu valley i.e. Patan Durbar Square. In Patan, you will be visiting other UNESCO World Heritage sites. We will visit Krishna Temple and Patan Durbar Square. Later on, visit the Patan Museum, where you can learn more about the history of Patan and the kings who reigned here. Later, visit the Golden Temple, a major attraction for both Hindu and Buddhist people.

Then-after, we will be visiting Bhaktapur. You will be amazed by the architecture of the place. Until today, the city has been able to be kept intact in its old form. You can observe the old wood carved buildings all around Bhaktapur. We will visit the Nyatapola Temple, one of the biggest temples in Nepal. Here, you can also take the pottery making class using the traditional methods. You will visit the Pottery Square. Here, you can also take the pottery making class using the traditional methods. Here, you will be taught to design your own pot. Once you have your basic shape hammered out, you can even choose to adorn your creation.

Your trip will come to an end today. First, you will be advised and assisted with your onward travel arrangements. Then, we shall transfer you to Kathmandu Tribhuvan International Airport. You will reach the airport 3 hours before your flight schedule.
