The Khayar Lake Trek is an interesting trekking destination located in the Annapurna region. Only a few years ago, this trail was opened to the public by the government. The major highlights of this trek are the magnificent views of the Annapurna ranges including Annapurna South, Annapurna III and IV, Himchuli, Machhapuchhre, and many more over the magnificent Khayar Lake at 4827 meters. Gurung, Magar, and Tamang communities are the main populations around the region. The Khayar Lake trek gives you the opportunity to explore the unique traditional lifestyle and culture along with the Khayar Lake. During the Khayar Lake trek, enjoy the beautiful views of mountain ranges as you pass through the paddy fields.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu (1400m)

Upon your arrival at Kathmandu airport, our representative will meet, greet and welcome you in order to transfer you to your confirmed hotel. You can rest, relax and enjoy your time in the hotel or you can stroll around the city.

Day 2Kathmandu to Pokhara (827m) driving duration: 6-7 hours

Our guide will receive you at the hotel and then you will head towards Pokhara, which is in the west direction from Kathmandu and lies about 200 kilometers far. Along the highway, enjoy the exciting panorama of rivers and landscapes. Upon arrival in Pokhara, check-in to the hotel and have some rest. Later in the afternoon, you can stroll around the lakeside street of Pokhara and the bank of the Phewa lake.

Day 3Pokhara to Tikhedhunga (1480m) via Nayapul (1070m) driving duration: 1-2 hours, hiking duration: 5-6 hours

In the morning, check out from the hotel, and then we’ll drive to Nayapul. From Nayapul, the trekking starts with as first destination Tikhedhunga. The trail is easy and most of the trail is smooth ascending to Tikhedhunga.

Day 4Thikedhunga to Ghorepani (3210m) hiking duration: 6-7 hours

We’ll start trekking from Tikhedhunga to the steep steps of Ulleri. The steep steps Ulleri are very challenging so take your time to ascend while passing along villages and streams. Along the route, you’ll get the first sight of the Himalayas of the trek. The trail will then take you through a rhododendron forest that leads into Ghorepani. Overnight accommodation will be in a local lodge.

Ghorepani

Day 5Ghorepani to Swata village (2270m) via Poon Hill (3210m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

In the early morning, you’ll begin the trek to Poon Hill early in the morning to catch the first ray of sunlight. The pleasant sunrise at Poon Hill glides over the culturally rich villages that are set against the background of the majestic mountains. Afterward, we return to Ghorepani and have breakfast. Then, we leave Ghorepani and head for Swata village. After trekking for about 4 hours through dense rhododendron forests, we’ll reach today’s destination, Swata village.

Day 6Swata village to Khobra Danda (4020m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

Today is a strenuous day as we have to ascend more than 1500 meters. Leaving Swata village, we ascend over a steep path passing through many beautiful landscapes and gorges. Along the path, one can enjoy the magnificent views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre. After trekking for about 5 to 6 hours, we reach KhobraDanda.

Day 7Khobra Danda to Khayar base camp (4620m) hiking duration 3-4 hours

Today is the day we will be reaching our main destination. As we leave KhobraDanda, we head to Khayar Base Camp. The route is difficult due to the altitude and it will take about 4 to 5 hours to reach Khayar Base Camp.

Day 8Explore around Khayar base camp

Early in the morning, one can witness the majestic sunrise views over the Annapurna mountain range. Use your whole day to explore and roam around Khayar Lake and its surroundings.

Day 9Khayar base camp to Khobra Danda (4020m) hiking duration: 5-6 hours

Today, we retrace our trail back to KhobraDanda. The 4 to 5-hour trek is over a wonderful trail with beautiful scenery along the way.

Day 10Khobra Danda to Chistibung (300m) hiking duration: 4-5 hours

Leaving Khobra Danda and we’ll pass through hills, gorges, and a forest to reach Chistibung, which will take about 4 to 5 hours. We spend the night in Chistibung.

Day 11Chistibung to Dobato (3350m) hiking duration: 4-5 hours

The trail leads us to many ascends and descends leading through a dense forest to reach Dobato. Along the trail, you can enjoy beautiful landscapes filled with dense rhododendron forests and panoramic views of mountain ranges.
Accommodation: Overnight in available lodges in Dobato.

Day 12Dobato to Tadapani (2630m) hiking duration: 4-5 hours

Today, the trail is comparatively easier and requires only 4 to 5 hours of trekking. Along the trail, you can enjoy the panoramic view of the Annapurna mountain ranges and Himchuli mountain. You can also observe the diverse flora and fauna found along the streams and waterfalls.

Day 13Tadapani to Ghandruk village (1940m) hiking duration: 4-5 hours

In the morning, we descend to Ghandruk village. As we descend, we pass through a dense rhododendron forest accompanied by waterfalls and streams. Ghandruk village is one of the largest and most famous Gurung settlements in Nepal and provides firsthand experience in the culture and traditions of the Gurung community. This village also provides an awe-inspiring view of Annapurna and Machhapuchhre Mountain.

Day 14Ghandruk to Pokhara via Nayapul, hiking duration: 5-6 hours, driving duration: 1-2 hours

Today is your last day of trekking. Leaving the beautiful village of Ghandruk, you will commence walking downhill to Nayapul. The trail is quite easy compared to the previous days. As you reach Nayapul, you will catch the vehicle and drive back to Pokhara. With that, the trekking on this tour has ended.

Day 15Pokhara to Kathmandu, driving duration: 6-7 hours

Our guide will pick you up from the hotel and then make our day back to Kathmandu. During the drive, you can enjoy the views of the villages, the Marshyangdi and Trishuli river, rice terraces and the mountain ranges. On reaching Kathmandu, check-in to the hotel, have some rest or stroll around the streets of Thamel.

Day 16Departure

In the morning, our office representative will come to pick you and transfer you to the airport for the flight to your onward destination, according to your flight time.
