Bhutan - Bhutan Cultural Tours (8 Days)

Bhutan is a secluded country which has remained untouched for many years and it is wording famous due to its unique culture and this tour would be a suitable option for the person who loves to see the Bhutanese local culture, society, glorious mountains scenery as well as low land with dense forest and you can click on main images of Bhutan while doing this tour. You will be flying over the great Himalayas, amidst the most magnificent of the world.

This itinerary is a guideline only and we will follow the itinerary as far as possible but due to weather conditions, health conditions, natural disasters and other unfavorable phenomenon your guide might decide to amend or cancel the itinerary for your own safety. Your guide will help you at any time with providing information regarding conditions and safety during the treks.

Today you will be arriving at Paro international airport which is Bhutan's only international airport and our guide will be there to meet and welcome you and you will be transferred to Thimpu by a private vehicle. From Paro, you can have the spectacular view of the Everest, Kanchenjunga and other Himalayan peaks, along with the awesome view of sacred Chomolhari and Jichu Drakey of Bhutan. After reaching to Thimpu, check-in hotel and have a rest for a while and later on, you can stroll around the local streets of Thimpu and to the nearby places.

After Breakfast, get ready to explore the Thimpu city with your guide. You will have a full day sightseeing in Thimpu valley, which includes National Library-a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts & manuscripts, the market, Handmade paper Mill, School of Arts and crafts where students learn 13 different arts used predominantly in Bhutan, ChangangkhaLhakhang- the fortress-like a temple, Traditional Medicine Institute, Memorial Chorten-built in the memory of Bhutan’s third King, TashichhoDzong-The beautiful medieval fortress/monastery, which houses Secretariat building, King’s Throne room and other government’s offices are also known as ‘fortress of the glorious religion’.

It is also the summer residence of Chief Abbot. You will also visit Handicrafts Emporium, Buddha Point (KuenselPhodrang) and a short drive away from Thimphu city center, visitors can get a good overview of the Thimphu valley from the Buddha point (KuenselPhodrang). You can also pay your obeisance and offer prayers to the Buddha, the largest statue in the country.

Today, after having your breakfast, you will drive up to Dochula pass (alt. 3050 m). If the weather permits, you can see a range of high Himalayan peaks towards the northeast. The following peaks can be seen from this pass, on a clear day; Masagang (7158 m), Tsendagang (6960 m), Terigang (7060 m), Jejegangphugang (7158 m, Kangphugang (7170 m), Zongaphugang (7060 m), a table mountain that dominates the isolated region of Lunana – and finally GangkarPunsum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7497 m. Further continuing your drive, you will head towards Wangdiphodrang town for lunch.

After lunch, you will proceed to Trongsa across Pelela pass (alt. 3300 m). A large prayer flag marks the pass and the ground is covered with high altitude dwarf bamboo. You will stop by on the way toChendbjiChorten, which was built in the 18th century by a lama named Shida. It has a Nepalese design style with eyes painted at four cardinal points. You will arrive at Trongsa and check into the lodge.

After your breakfast, later on, today, you will visit the TrongsaDzong, built by Shabdrung in 1647 and visit the TaaDzong (watchtower) which is dedicated to the Buddhist epic hero, King Gesar of Ling. Now you will drive to Bumthang which is 29 Km from the Trongsa road, you will reach the Yutong La pass (alt. 3400 m). Further, 13 km ahead, the road enters into a wide, open, cultivated valley known as Chumey valley. After arriving in Bumthang, you will check into a lodge and get ready for lunch.

After lunch, you will visit KurjeLhakhang-consists of three temples that are surrounded by a 108 chorten wall, JambeyLhakhang- built in the 7th century by the Tibetan King, SongtsenGampo. You will also visit JakarDzong- initially built as a monastery in 1549, Membartsho which is known as the burning lake. It is a wide spot on the Tang Chhu and is considered to be one of the greatest pilgrimage sites of Bhutan. This site is decorated with an array of prayer flags and small clay offerings called ‘TseTsa’ in rock niches. After completing your sight seen get back to your hotel and have rest.

After having breakfast, you will explore the fascinating valley of Bumthang. You will head towards Tongsa after exploring the valley and take your lunch. After lunch, you will proceed to Punakha. En route, you will have a pit stop in WangdiphodrangDzong to explore. Today is a pretty long way to reach to Punakha so lay back and make yourself comfortable while driving towards Punakha and on the way you can enjoy the beautiful landscape and the vegetation as well. After reaching to Punakha, check-in the hotel and have rest as you might be tired.

Have your breakfast in the morning and then you will have a morning visit to PunakhaDzong, a massive structure built at the junction of two rivers. It was the capital of Bhutan until 1955 and still serves as the winter residence of the monk body. The first King, UgyenWangchuck, was crowned here in 1907. The fortress has withstood several damages from fire, earthquake, and flood. The latest flood of Oct 1994 caused great damage to the fortress but miraculously spared the statue of Buddha Jojampa. After lunch, you will proceed onwards to Paro.

Along the way, you will visit the traditional Bhutanese Farm House which offers a good insight into the lifestyle of the local people and their culture. On arrival in Paro. Check in to a hotel and have a rest. Later on, you can stroll around the Paro city and to the market area as well and after that get back to the hotel.

The beautiful valley of Paro encapsulates itself within a rich culture, beautiful nature with hundreds of myths and legends. It houses many of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries. We will be visiting places such as Ta Dzong-built as a watchtower to defend Rinpung Dzong, Rinpung Dzong also known as “the heap of Jewels” and was built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgya, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan, Drukgyel Dzong- built in 1647 by the Shabdrung for protection from the invasion of Tibetans. On a clear day, one can see the commanding view of Mt. Chomolhari from the village below the Dzong.

Later, you will also visit Kyichu Lhakhang, Taktshang Lhakhang which is also known as “Tiger’s Nest”. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated at this monastery and hence its name. Taktshang Lhakhang is one of the most famous monasteries in Bhutan which is perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the Paro valley floor. The site is recognized as the most sacred place and is visited by Bhutanese at least once in their lifetime. After completing your sight seen get back to your hotel and have rest.

In the morning have your breakfast and pack your bags as our office representative will come to receive you in the hotel and you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
