Let’s know something about Ghorepani

Ghorepani is a settlement in the Dhaulagiri Zone of northern-central Nepal's Myagdi District. It is located 17 kilometers from Beni, the district capital, at an altitude of roughly 2874 meters (9429 ft). The settlement is located within the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA), which requires a national park permit to visit, and is home to a number of "guest houses" that give lodging and meals to mountain hikers. Many of them stay the night before taking a daybreak hike to the top of nearby Poon Hill (3210m/10531 ft).

The location was once a rest point where ancient traders could get water (pani in Nepali) for their horses (ghora in Nepali), hence the name Ghorepani. As a result of the construction of new highways, the Ghorepani trade route is no longer necessary, and the village's major source of income is now tourism.

Ghorepani is located on a key trail that connects various towns and the Annapurna Base Camp. It can be reached by foot in around 10 hours from the settlement of Birethanti in the southeast direction, depending on the trekker. Due to the steepness of the trail, the increase in altitude, and the beauty of the natural surroundings, many trekkers opt to overnight in one of the smaller villages on their journey to Ghorepani, traversing the journey in two days. Ghorepani can be reached in around 8–10 hours from Tatopani in a northwest direction. This trail travels through the villages of Shikha, Dana, and Chitre.

The distances between places on the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek are listed here. However, if you've ever visited Nepal or walked any routes, you'll know that the amount of kilometers isn't always a good indicator of how much time is required! As a result, we've provided the average time it takes for a trekker of average skill to complete the distance.

Distance by Road

Your journey will begin with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara on the first day. How long do you think it'll take?

Despite the fact that the distance between Kathmandu and Pokhara is only 200 kilometers, travelling from Kathmandu to Pokhara might take anywhere from 7 to 8 hours. That is, if there are no roadblocks caused by accidents or natural disasters (landslides are common in the monsoon).

The drive out of Kathmandu Valley is breathtakingly beautiful, with a high cliff on one side and a sharp drop-off over a river on the other. Movement is slow due to single-lane traffic on several sections of the road.

Time to get from Kathmandu to Pokhara

From Kathmandu, there are three options for getting to Pokhara. Traveling via bus, private car/jeep, or airline is an option.

A 30-minute flight is required to take the plane. If the weather is clear and you take the first flight out of Pokhara, you can be sitting by the side of Fewa Lake in time for breakfast. You'll also get a free mountain flight!

It will take you roughly 7 hours in a private vehicle, including stops. A own vehicle has the advantage of allowing you to start later in the morning (though it is advisable to leave early) and stop anywhere you wish for photography and other purposes.

It will take you 7-8 hours to travel by tourist bus (whether regular or deluxe), including stops. Around 7 a.m., tourist buses depart from Kathmandu.

Road conditions, such as traffic jams and road construction, affect all modes of transportation.

Weather can cause flight delays, especially during the monsoon season.

Time to get from Pokhara to Naya Pool

Your trip truly begins when you travel from Pokhara to Naya Pool, the start of the trip. Pokhara is 62 kilometers away from Naya Pool. This route is in better shape and is flatter than the Kathmandu to Pokhara road, therefore it will take you 1.5 to 2 hours on average. You can travel by public transport or private vehicle once more.

It takes about 1.5 hours to get from Pokhara to Naya Pool in a private vehicle. You have the option of leaving a little later in the morning to allow for a more leisurely breakfast.

However, keep in mind that you will be walking for around 4 or 5 hours after arriving at Naya Pool, so don't leave Pokhara too late! Another benefit of having your own transportation is that you can drive straight to Tikhe Dhunga, avoiding the first day's walk.

By public bus, which runs approximately every hour and takes 2 hours.

Walking Time you might take on Average
