On a way to Poon Hill Trek, a part from sweeping view of the Kali Gandaki valley wedged between two 8,000 m peaks of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri you will be volunteering in Ghandruk for five days which is a charming mountain village in the forefront of Annapurna South and Mt. Fishtail. Thatch and slate roofed stone houses dominates the village surrounded by farming terraces, Ghandruk School Volunteer Program is run in Government Primary Schools in Kaski district. The volunteers will work in the schools and organize various enjoyable and creative activities for the children to sharpen their talents and increase their knowledge. Apart from that they will coordinate with school head teacher for other physical and infrastructure support. In two weeks program our volunteers work continuously to explore the hidden talents in the children and to promote them. The volunteers will assist in a wide variety of chosen subjects and activities, including English, Mathematics, Arts and Sports. Volunteers are also welcome to bring educational material for the kids such as stationary, books etc.

Difficulty:

Moderate to difficult with continuous climb of about 1,700 m within two days.

Season:

August to May (Being in the foothills of the Annapurna, this trek could be done throughout the winter).

Volunteer Trek Itinerary:

Day 01: ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU- (1,300m/4,264 ft.)

Upon your arrival in the Kathmandu airport, our representative will meet greet and welcome you and transfer you to your confirmed hotel. You can rest relax and enjoy your time in the hotel or you can stroll around the city.Overnight Hotel.

Day 02: SIGHTSEEING IN KATHMANDU

After Breakfast, the guided full day sightseeing starts around Kathmandu. Here you can feast your eyes on the rich and colorful history of the country. The tour includes Kathmandu Durbar Square- houses the old royal palace of the Kathmandu kingdom, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple- swarming with monkeys), Pashupatinath- one of the most significant Hindu temple of Lord Shiva in the world, Boudha Stupa- one of the holiest Buddhist sites in Kathmandu. You will be able to observe the country in its original status. From the top of the SwayambhuNath Temple to the fluttering of colorful prayer flags at Boudha Stupa, you will be able to feel the way of life of the people living in Kathmandu Valley.Overnight Hotel.

Day 03: DRIVE TO POKHARA (220 km/ 9 hrs.)

After having Breakfast in the hotel, you will commence driving to reach Pokhara. You can see the beautiful view of Nepal's countryside and the beautiful scenery of rivers, streams.Jungles as well as mountains on a clear day.Overnight in Hotel.

DAY 4: DRIVE TO NAYAPUL AND TREK TO THIKEDUNGA (1,600 M)

We will drive in a private car to the trekking trail head of Nayapul after breakfast from hotel. The scenic drive will take about 1 and half hrs. From Nayapul we will follow upstream Modi Khola for about 30 mints and then cross it at the confluence of Modi and Burungdi River. Follow upstream Burungdi river climbing gradually to Thikedunga at the base of steep 3,000 steps to Ulleri. This 4 hrs walking is a good warm up for the first day or you can even climb 3,000 steps to Ulleri to make the next day easier.

DAY 5: TREK TO GHOREPANI (2,800 M / 6 hrs)

Climbing the steep stone steps would be mild in the morning. The climb will take about 2 hrs. Ulleri is a Magar village dominated by Pun Magars at 2,100 m. From the village we will get the first view of Annapurna south and Mt. Fishtail. From the Ulleri village, the trail climbs gradually into the shed of alpine forest. The forest walk is intermediated by group of teahouses catering trekkers. Ghorepani is a mountain pass below Pun Hill, overlooking at the world's deepest valley (Kaligandaki) wedged between Dhaulagiri and Annapurna ranges.

DAY 6: SHORT HIKE TO PUN HILL | TREK TO TADAPANI (5 HRS)

Sunrise view from the Pun Hill is the highlight of the pun hill trek. The hilltop at 3,190 m is 50 mints climb from Ghoprepani. As the early rays of sun hits snow peaks, its color changes from pink to red. Panaromic view of over 15 peaks of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna and Manaslu ranges appear unreal. From Pun Hill one can see some of the world's highest peaks including Dhaulagiri (8,167m / 7th highest), Annapurna I (8,091 m / 10th highest) and Manaslu (8,157 m / 8th highest) Climb down to Ghoprepani and prepare for another beautiful day's walk to Tadapani. The trail at first climbs to the ridge top towards east and then follows the ridge dense with Rhododendron to Deurali. Another three hours of walking through the rhododendron forest will take us to Tadapani at 2,500 m. From Tadapani, we have closer view of Annapurna South and Fishtail.

DAY 7: SHORT WALK TO GHANRDUK (3 HRS / 1,900 M)

Walk down to Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a charming mountain village in the forefront of Annapurna South and Mt. Fishtail. Thatch and slate roofed stone houses dominates the village surrounded by farming terraces.In the evening go for a village walk or just relax enjoying the view in the comfort of Ghandruk.

DAY 8-13: VOLUNTEER IN GHANRDUK

In these six days you will work in the schools and organize various enjoyable and creative activities for the children to sharpen their talents and increase their knowledge. Day 22- Tuintaar-Fishing Day

This day is fun roaming around the surrounding and the small hydro power being built. Enjoy the fish and after having lunch you will be returning back to homestay in Necha.Overnight at homestay or tent.

DAY 14: TREK DOWN TO NAYAPUL (5 Hrs) & DRIVE BACK TO POKHARA

Climb down the stone steps to the Modi river basin and then follow it downstream to Nayapul from where we started this short trek in Annapurna. A car will come here to pick you up and you will be back to Pokhara in the late afternoon.

DAY 15: DRIVE TO KATHMANDU FROM POKHARA (9 Hrs)

After breakfast in Pokhara you will commence drive to reach Kathmandu. You can see the beautiful sceneries and country side environment of the country throughout the drive. Overnight at Hotel in Kathmandu. You will be greeted with token of love and appreciation letter.

Day -16 Transfer to the airport for your final departure.
