The concept of agro tourism is a direct expansion of ecotourism, which encourages visitors to experience agricultural life at first hand. Agro Tourism is when a native person or local of the area offers tours to their Agriculture Farm to allow a person to view them growing, harvesting, and processing locally grown foods, or any produce the person would not encounter in his / her home country. Visitors are often provided with home staying facilities while visiting such regions or areas.

Agro tourism involves activities in rural areas through which the visitors have the opportunity to get acquainted with agricultural areas, agricultural occupations, local products, traditional cuisine and the daily life of the people as well as the cultural elements and the authentic features of the area, while showing respect for the environment and tradition. It mobilizes the productive, cultural and development force of an area, contributing in this way to the sustainable environmental, economic and social development issues.

Agro tourism in Nepal is gathering strong support from small communities as rural people have realized the benefits of sustainable development brought about by similar forms of natural travel improving the income and potential economic viability of small farms.
