The most popular trekking area in Nepal is situated
north of Pokhara. This trek offers some of the most
dramatic close-up views of the tallest mountain
peaks in the world. The abrupt variations in altitude
provide an astonishing experience. The summit of
Machhapuchhre (6997m) is less than 30 kilometers
from the airstrip in Pokhara (850m). In less than
a week we move from the sub-tropical areas around
Pokhara to high tundra and the glaciers of the Annapurna
sanctuary. Inhabited by the Gurung and Magar people
- the friendly smiling people from the famous Gorkha
regiment of the British and Indian armies. The Annapurna
Sanctuary offers a good mix of high mountains and
Himalayan culture on this trek. The Annapurna Himal
lies between the Kali Gandaki and Marshyangdi river
valleys, forming a solid, mountain bastion. In its
span of 40 miles, it encompasses some twelve peaks
higher than 7000 m. and numerous others over (6000

m), Gangapurna (7454 m), Tharpu Chuli (5663 m) and

Round Annapurna Treks
(Thorong las pass 5416M)
The trek around the
Annapurna Massif is one of the finest in the Himalaya.
The sheer diversity of the mountain escape, the
exhilaration of crossing a high mountain pass, and
the unsurpassed views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri
and Manaslu Ranges are the essentials of this outstanding
trek.
Trekking
north, we acclimatize at the important trading village
of Manang (3351m), before crossing the Thorong La
(5416m). As you reach the pass, line after line
of snow ridges stretch before you, while far below
lies the sub-tropical Kali Gandaki Gorge.
From the heights of the pass we descend to Muktinath
and its scared Buddhist and Hindu Shrines. Further
south, the contrasts of the Nepal Himalaya become
even more apparent, as high windswept passes are
replaced by forests, or mandarin and banana groves.
